Teachers

The success of the Laugh It Out program in specialized classes has led to the question – how can we give the benefits learned in improvisation classes to the whole student body? Luckily, we can. Through our Professional Development workshops for teachers and staff, everyone benefits.

Several times a year in on-site ½ day workshops at the schools and through our upcoming Teachers Blog, faculty participate in improvisation exercise and learn how to apply the games in their advisory periods and subject classes for classroom management and to foster a sense of community.

In the workshops, teachers who do not work together, or might even have competing interests; learn to work together as a team – they build bonds through collaborative games and exercises. Additionally they lean how to use the games to help their students to take risks, to trust each other; to listen to and respect each other. These heightened communication skills foster a more authentic learning environment where students contribute and feel connected.

The teacher-to-teacher bonds lead to teacher-to-student-student and filter to student-to-student bonds creating a community. Community and a sense of belonging strengthen the commitment to school for teachers and students alike.
